NDIS participants living with high and complex needs often face challenges that go beyond day-to-day coordination. Whether you’re navigating multiple service providers, dealing with complex situations, or struggling to access consistent and reliable supports, Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) is designed to help stabilise your environment and restore a sense of safety, structure, and control.
At Achora, we specialise in high-intensity NDIS coordination services. Our expert team works with participants facing significant barriers and systemic complexity to deliver coordinated, consistent, and compassionate support, right when it’s needed most.
Specialist Support Coordination is the highest level of support coordination available under the NDIS. Funded through the Capacity Building – Support Coordination category, this service is intended for participants who face exceptional complexity in their lives or disability support needs.
It’s for those who require a more qualified, experienced, and intensive level of intervention.
Unlike Level 1 (Support Connection) or Level 2 (Support Coordination), Level 3 involves a high degree of expertise, risk management, and crisis response. It is delivered by Specialist Support Coordinators, qualified professionals with backgrounds in mental health, social work, justice, housing, or allied health, who have the skills and training to manage complex and high-risk situations.
Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) may be suitable if you:
This level of support is often included in plans for participants with histories of homelessness, incarceration, hospitalisation, family violence, substance dependence, or behaviour support requirements.
At Achora, our Specialist Support Coordinators work closely with you, your family, service providers, and external systems to create safe, sustainable solutions. Our role includes:
We deliver ongoing, high-frequency support that is responsive to your changing needs. Our team is trained in managing complexity and resolving critical issues across multiple areas of your life.
We manage multiple providers and ensure they work together toward a consistent, person-centred plan. This includes aligning therapy, housing, health, and behavioural supports to avoid duplication and reduce gaps in care.
When things escalate, such as housing instability, hospitalisation, family breakdown, or disengagement from services, we act quickly to put crisis management strategies in place and stabilise the environment.
We liaise with public systems like health, justice, child protection, and housing, ensuring your NDIS plan is integrated and respected across all parts of your life.
We go beyond emergency support to design future-focused strategies that address root causes, improve coordination across providers, and reduce future risk. Our aim is to reduce chaos and build consistent, lasting support systems.
To access Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination, it must be specifically requested and approved in your NDIS plan under the Capacity Building – Support Coordination budget. You may be eligible if your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator identifies significant barriers or risks in your current situation, or if a treating clinician or allied health professional recommends a higher level of support due to complex needs.
This level of coordination is also often granted to participants who have experienced disengagement from services, recurring crisis events, or consistent underutilisation of their funding. Additionally, if you’re transitioning from a hospital, justice system, or out-of-home care setting, Specialist Support Coordination may be considered essential to help you stabilise your supports.
If this level of support is not already included in your plan, you can request it during your initial NDIS planning meeting, at a scheduled plan reassessment, or through a formal Change of Circumstances submission if your situation has changed significantly. At Achora, we’re here to support you every step of the way. We help you to prepare the right evidence, communicate your needs clearly, and advocate for the appropriate level of coordination to support your safety and long-term stability.
They typically hold degrees or formal qualifications in areas like psychology, social work, community services, or allied health. And, they have extensive experience working in complex environments (e.g. justice, mental health, housing, child protection).
Frequency is based on your level of need. Most participants receiving Specialist Support Coordination are in regular contact, with crisis responsiveness as required.
Yes. If your needs have changed or your current coordination isn’t meeting your complexity, you can request a Change of Circumstances and apply for Level 3 funding with appropriate supporting evidence.
Not always. Some participants only need it temporarily during periods of transition or crisis. The long-term goal is usually to stabilise the situation and reduce the need for such intensive involvement over time.
